When a woman is found brutally murdered on Austin’s lakeside hike-and-bike trail, investigative reporter Bailey Rhoads turns up on the scene demanding access and answers of lead detective, Jacob Merritt. But this case is unlike any Jacob has ever seen, and nothing adds up.

Bailey has a hunch that the victim wasn’t who she claimed to be and believes this mugging-turned-murder could have been a targeted hit. When she digs deeper, the trail leads her to a high-tech fortress on the outskirts of Austin, where researchers are pushing the boundaries of a cutting-edge technology that could be deadly in the wrong hands.

As a ruthless hitman’s mission becomes clear, Bailey and Jacob join together in a desperate search to locate the next target before the clock ticks down in this lethal game of hide-and-seek.

A fantastic read that had me hooked from the first page!

I especially loved the investigative parts which discussed the crime scene, autopsy report etc. It all felt very real and I loved the dialogue between Jacob and Kendra. It felt like a proper crime drama and I was completely absorbed, desperate to know who had done it.

This may be a thriller on the face of things, with the suspense and chase of it all, but woven between all of this is a beautiful romance between Bailey and Jacob. From when they first meet you know there is a spark between them and in my head I was shouting “He likes you! Just get together already!” Plus lets not forget that Jacob is completely swoon worthy!

The romance is a lovely theme running through it but the suspense of the actual thriller, especially at one point when Bailey is at Granite Tech, definitely had me on the edge of my seat. That one chapter really did leave me feeling uneasy. The way it detailed the feeling of being watched and chased really scared me.

I also really liked the parts regarding the gathering of peoples data and their identities. Data leaks and hacking are definitely things that are happening right now and it left an uneasy feeling in my stomach at how easy it was to track someone down.

Overall if you’re looking for a gripping thriller mixed with a budding romance then this is the book for you!
