A laugh out loud friends to lovers rom-com!
This is my book review of Just Friends for the blog tour hosted by Random Things Tours.
Just Friends by Holly McCulloch
Bea isn’t happy. Desperate for a change, she looks to her friends for inspiration. Every single one of them is paired off, perhaps that’s what she needs too.
So, she starts dating again. But everywhere she goes – amid the hilarious and scarring dates – there’s Peter. Good old, oddball Peter, her closest friend from university. He’s always been firmly in the friend zone but something’s happened lately – he seems taller, more handsome and suddenly making him smile is Bea’s favourite thing.
But how can Bea possibly risk their friendship? And how do you even go about taking someone out of the friend zone? What if Bea and Peter were only ever meant to be just friends…
This was a lovely, lighthearted and quick read!
It’s been a long time since I genuinely laughed out loud at a book and this had me chuckling from the first few chapters when Bea talks about ‘teeny tiny pencil penis’. 🙂
This book is essentially a friends to lovers romance, but to be honest I felt like that was a background storyline. I most enjoyed reading about Bea and how she was trying to get her life together, be that with dating or starting her own business. Reading about her escapades in the dating world really were hilarious and I would have been quite happy to read more pages about these incidents.
Let’s not forget Peter, the loyal friend who is just so lovely and who you will be rooting for from the very beginning and no doubt shouting at the book to say “just text each other”. It’s a classic miscommunication, crossed paths scenario that are in all good rom-coms.
Overall I will say that yes this is a romance, but for me this was all about Bea and I was totally there for that! An amusing, cheeky rom-com that would be the perfect book to curl up with on these dark nights!
