I love this book series from Sara Madderson and I didn’t think I could love two characters more than Jack & Emmy in The Winters Fail…..that was until I was introduced to Clara and Alex – thank you Sara!
This is by far my favourite book out of all of them as there is so much more to this story than just the usual romance. Chapters alternate between present day, as Clara meets Alex again after 21 years and the past where we discover the devastating truth as to what happened between them all those years ago.
I was completely invested in Alex. His background story was heartbreaking and to see the pain / guilt he was going through years later was awful but completely understandable and the author handled it so well.
Yes this does have all the romance and steamy moments I’ve come to expect from this author but woven within this romance are deep issues about forgiveness, trust and taking chances. All were beautifully explored and I just have to mention one of my favourite quotes “You need to know, before you mess her around and mess up her marriage, that you are ready to catch all three of those very special people when they jump.”
Once again we are introduced to characters from previous books which I always enjoy as it feels like one big family and I think it’s great how they are all linked.
Overall this is definitely one of Sara’s grittier books that is the perfect balance between exploring some tough issues and the wonderful romance we all want.
