Review

Rating: 5 out of 5.

80’s pop-culture references, american high school drama, complicated female friendships, Stranger Things vibes and classic horror moments – this book had everything I could ever have wanted and it’s going up there as one of my all time favourites!

We’re introduced to Abby and Gretchen as they meet at Abby’s E.T themed birthday party (hell yeah) and immediately it felt like I was right there with them. You then begin this journey with them as they navigate the usual teenage drama, until something strange happens with Gretchen and then we start to delve into the horror side of things.

I wouldn’t say it’s full on horror, I was definitely on the edge of my seat at times and yes there was one definite gruesome scene which I got Stranger Things vibes from and it was very unsettling to read. Oh and no spoilers but there was also one part I found very upsetting and I’m still not over it. Other than that the horror is more suspense as it builds to the crashing finale which was absolutely brilliant and I’m sure I was holding my breath throughout.

This book took me on one hell of a ride and I enjoyed every single moment of it. Throughout I wasn’t sure how it was going to end and after some very intense scenes, the author ended it beautifully and completely added another layer to this already brilliant story.

Overall this was a bit of everything, mixed together to produce an epic story of horror and drama, but ultimately it was a story of true friendship!
